Our main business objective is to provide clean ammonia to markets that need reliable, low-carbon energy, starting with Europe and its climate targets. We believe clean ammonia, as both a clean energy source and a carrier of clean hydrogen, is a central part of that future.

OUR STORY

From concept to FEED-ready in five years.

The project has matured since 2020 into a complete industrial ecosystem, with term sheets across the value chain and public support already awarded.

2020Project establishedBarents Clean Ammonia is set up in May 2020 to build a world-scale, low-carbon ammonia plant in Finnmark.
2021IPCEI awardA novel production design for ultra-low-carbon ammonia is developed, and the project is awarded NOK 482 million under the EU IPCEI Hydrogen programme, Hy2Use.
2021–2025Concept to design freezeConcept studies, concept select and design freeze. Grid power reserved and impact assessment programme approved.
2025A stand-alone companyHorisont Ammoniakk becomes independent in June and takes the name Barents Blue AS in July. A new partner joins the project company in December.
2026Ready for FEEDAbout 90 % of critical project work complete, with term sheets for gas supply, CO₂ storage and ammonia sales.
2027–2031FID and first productionFinal investment decision planned for end 2027 or early 2028, with first production planned for end 2031.
