Barents Clean Ammonia in Hammerfest is our first asset: a world-scale ammonia plant with carbon capture, ready for front-end engineering. Behind it stands a standardised design that can be taken to new sites.
A unique combination of scale, maturity and location.
The plant site lies at Markoppneset in Hammerfest municipality, next to the sheltered waters of Repparfjord with no sea ice. Gas arrives by pipeline from the Melkøya gas plant, CO₂ goes to permanent offshore storage, and ammonia leaves by ship. Local supplier industry is 35–45 minutes away, and the site has abundant access to clean water.
Key technical data for the first production train.
Most of the derisking is already done. The project is ready to start FEED work and move towards financial close.
The ecosystem around the plant has been matured since 2020, with term sheets signed across the value chain.
The plant uses autothermal reforming technology already applied in seven plants worldwide. Carbon capture above 99 % comes from integrating proven capture technology into the plant design while keeping energy use low.
Our standardised one-million-tonne production train is ready to be redeployed at sites with access to natural gas, CO₂ storage and export routes. Several trains can be planned at one site, and a modular plant design gives high location flexibility.
We are evaluating new locations in North America and other attractive regions, where the standard design can be paired with natural gas, carbon storage and export infrastructure.
